Whee, where do I begin? This cream seems to be a fan favourite everywhere I look. Even famous Korean skin care blogger Skin & Tonics waxed lyrical about this product, though she did say that the addition of horse oil somewhat puts her off using this product. When I saw this go on sale for about KRW 15,000 (ca USD 14) at my local Watsons, which is half of its usual price, I snapped it up, very proud of myself for getting such a hyped product for a great price. Did I like it though? First of all, some preliminary thoughts.
If you read online reviews as much as I do, you'll notice that pretty much everyone and their mother has only good things to say about this product. Though some caution that it may be too rich for day time use, it seems to be generally accepted that this cream is the best thing since sliced bread. The ingredients list on cosDNA seems amazing too, with only a few acne triggers (2 or 3 on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the highest). Snail slime, oils, extracts, hyaluronic acid - all good things that I have used in the past with no problems whatsoever. I am also not fussed about the addition of horse oil, It does not irritate me or gross me out. If you have been living in Korea for a while, you will know that Koreans are not easily grossed out by consuming an animal snout to tail. So I expect that this cream is unlikely to gross out many people here, though I am aware that it may others overseas. Getting back to the original question: Did I enjoy using it? Did I reap some skincare benefits? Unfortunately, no, I didn't like this . I might be in the minority here though, Usually, I love emollient creams and oils that sit on top of all of my nightly or daily skincare, as I personally feel that they serve to seal in all the goodness of the creams and lotions and potions underneath. I like dry oils (oils that sink into your skin) just as much as oily oils (those that sit on top without ever really seeming to penetrate in the way that a lotion would). For some reason unbeknownst to me, this cream just made me feel icky when I put it on. I tried different amounts - a thick layer, a thin layer - underneath a variety of different products. It felt like an oil slick on my skin. I am also suspecting it to have broken me out, as there were no diet, cosmetic or lifestyle changes while I was using it, and still I got a number of deep, blind pimples, which for me are usually a sign of something quite severe going on in my skincare. That being said, I think this product would work amazingly well for someone with dry skin who is not prone to breakouts and who doesn't mind rich creams sitting on top of their skin. I feel as though this product would be great for dry-skinned folks in winter. Do give it a try and let me know how you fared!
