Today on the blog: fresh's Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy Boosting Face Mask. They certainly like to throw in evocative buzzwords into their product names and product descriptions. According to their website, 'Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask with a vitamin fruit complex features a concentrated citrus fruit blend of crushed oranges, lemons, and clementines that helps gently refine the appearance of the skin to soften, smooth, and improve clarity. The highly innovative mask is formulated with a proprietary vitamin fruit complex, a potent blend of vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin B5; lemon and orange fruit extracts; and revitalizing minerals, to reveal an incredibly vibrant, healthy-looking complexion.' Now, I really thought that I was going to love this deluxe sample (again, gifted by my mum). However, I did not really end up loving it. Here's why I didn't, though you, on the other hand, might:
First off, this mask smells beautiful, just like all the other fresh products that I have tried. But there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, and it is the case here. When I had this mask on, the aroma never seemed to die down or to dissipate. You know how your brain gets used to a smell after some time? My brain never seemed to think that the fragrance would lose its pungency at all. From the moment that I applied this mask until I washed it off, I felt as though I'd stuck my head into a giant jar of sticky bitter orange marmalade. To make myself clear, I did not enjoy this. If that is your jam though (...slow clap), you may not mind it as much as I did. A quick search on cosDNA revealed that their fragrance as well as other ingredients are listed as potential irritants, so be aware and investigate further if fragrance is a bit of an issue for you too. Secondly, I found the mask itself slightly irritating to skin. I have sensitive, acne prone skin, but I do like me some glow and vibrancy, which is why I use a gentle chemical exfoliant on the daily. So I figured that a lightly exfoliating mask wouldn't do much harm. I never put it on active breakouts - nonetheless I found that healing breakouts would feel a bit raw and irritated post-masking sesh. You may argue that I was possibly over exfoliating, but let me tell you - I have been using chemical peels and exfoliants daily for years, and have combined exfoliating toners with exfoliating masks in the past, and it never bothered my skin much. No, I think it's those citrus fruit extracts rather than their skin peeling attributes. So, who might benefit from using this mask, then? If you love citrus aromas, have skin that needs peeling, but that is also not overly sensitive and that doesn't take badly to fragranced products, then I say you may really love this product. Do give it a try and tell me in the comments how it worked for you if you have tried it for yourself :)
