Ah, Catrice. When I was growing up in Germany, this used to be one of my favourite brands for eyeliner, eye lid primers and powders. Elegant packaging, great price points, products that worked for teenage me. Seeing Catrice again made me feel nostalgic, and their products are still very reasonably priced. I snapped up a bottle of their HD Liquid Coverage Foundation when it was on sale for KRW6,900 (ca USD 6) at my local Watsons. Super price for 30 ml of product! Did it manage to kick off my holy grail foundation (Dr Jart's BB Dis-A-Pore) off its throne? Well, no. Under store lighting, the shade had seemed a great match, however when I applied it in natural daylight, I found that this foundation contains a lot of yellow undertones.
I am very fair with neutral undertones, and found this foundation much too yellow. I would imagine that this shade in particular - 010 Light Beige, which is their very lightest shade - would look great on a fair, olive skinned person, actually. Furthermore, you should know that I have some peach fuzz on my face. I do shave it, however some baby hairs are simply too fine and too short. Also, I am unwilling to shave my entire face just to make a foundation work. I like to take hairs off my cheeks near my side burns and I like to trim the 'stache but that's where it ends for me. This foundation tended to cling to my peach fuzz, making them look much worse than they actually were. I looked like a hairy beast instead of the well groomed working women that I aspire to be. I also had a bit of a hard time blending it in into that photoshopped finish that I like. In my mind's eye, I like to have the smooth, porcelain like skin of a mannequin, and I do everything I can to maintain that illusion on the daily: an extensive skin care routine, silicone primer, blurring foundation, micro HD setting powder, and setting spray. When I tried to buff this into my skin, I found it to be a bit patchy and that I needed to pat very gently without disturbing any product applied to the surrounding areas of my face. It required a lot of buffing and elbow grease - more than I like to do on the daily. Since it clung to my baby hairs, I have a feeling that it might stick to dry skin patches and uneven skin too. Do check it out for yourself before committing to the entire bottle. Bottom Line: Check this foundation in different lighting, and make sure that your skin's surface is relatively even. Use primers and buffing tools, and be prepared to put some work into it. It might just work for you because it is available at such a great price point.
