Today's review is about Avene's Gentle Toning Lotion, or, Lotion tonique douceur. This deluxe sample - another gift with purchase (GWP) - has an ingredient I had not seen before on a toner. What's that? Well, according to the bottle, it's cornstarch, a fact that I double checked on cosDNA to make sure that I'd read that right. Cornstarch? In a cosmetic toner?
Yet, according to Paula's choice, it's safe to use on your face, though they do note that it is most commonly used in powders. Now, I do want to know: why would you want to put cornstarch in a toner? If I wanted to mattify my face, I'd use powder, not a toner. I want my skincare to moisturise and nourish, perhaps exfoliate and disinfect too. Mattify is not something I'd ever want. On to the product's efficacy. It went on silky smooth (probably because of the cornstarch) and calming, though it could have done with a bit less perfume in my opinion. It felt comfortable on skin and soothing, too, though perhaps not exactly moisturising (again, most likely due to the cornstarch). Would I purchase again? No, because I want my skincare to hydrate, not to suck the moisture out of my skin. Bye for now.
