Whew, this one's a mouthful! And what a great product it is. I absolutely love this one and keep repurchasing it because of the amazing results it delivers. But first, let's talk about essences. Essences are, as far as I am aware, more of a Korean than a Western thing. What I (and many others) like to do is use them after toner, but before serums and/or moisturiser, oil, or sunscreen. Missha's in particular is an essence that contains fermented yeast. SK-II might have been the pioneer of the yeast essences, for, if I remember correctly, a whole slew of yeast essences followed suit when SK-II launched theirs. I have not tried SK-II's offering, and therefore cannot comment on its efficacy or whether it is different to Missha's. All I know is that I lurrrrve Missha's essence - let me tell you why. First of all, it is, like the title suggests, extremely hydrating but light. Your skin will be soft and bouncy from within, without feeling greasy or heavy as you would when using gloopy moisturisers.
Secondly, it wears really well and is so comfortable to apply. It has never balled up on me, and wears extremely well under makeup, or any other facial skincare product that I choose to slap on that day. It absorbs very well, too. No downtime waiting for it to sink in. Lastly, and most importantly in my opinion, it absolutely delivers a halo like glow to your skin that no other product has ever given me. Seriously. If I were you, I'd still apply moisturisers on top to seal in its goodness. However, the difference between using it under moisturiser and not using it is, in my opinion, very visible and I can always see how it visibly improves my skin. It actually combats aging in my opinion because of how deeply it moisturises. So there you have it. It imparts a lustrous glow and hydrates extremely well. If that is something you're looking for, do check it out. It retails for about KRW55,000 (ca USD 50) for 150 ml at my local Missha store, which sounds a lot but it will actually last you a while. I used it 7 days a week twice a day (morning and night) and I still got 5-6 months' use out of it.
